Preparing BAS and Processing Super in MYOB Acumatica
BAS in MYOB Acumatica runs from Prepare Tax Report (TX501000) to Release Tax Report (TX502000); super is batched on MPPP5005 and authorised by SMS code.
By Bill Alvarez, Practice Manager, Auboros ·
In MYOB Acumatica a Business Activity Statement (BAS) starts on Prepare Tax Report (TX501000) and is finalised on Release Tax Report (TX502000), which closes the GST period and raises the ATO bill. Super is batched on Create Superannuation Batch (MPPP5005) and authorised by SMS code on Superannuation Batch Details (MPPP5006). A Single Touch Payroll (STP) update event, sent from STP Update (MPPP5022), corrects year-to-date figures without a payment.
At a glance
- Who it is for: Finance and payroll staff on MYOB Acumatica (called MYOB Advanced until 2024) who want the exact forms and click order for each job
- Problem it solves: The BAS is two forms plus a report, super has separate approval and authorisation steps, and an STP correction does not always need a pay run
- Platforms: MYOB Acumatica Taxes module and MYOB Acumatica Payroll (Australia); Pay Super is MYOB’s own clearing house
- Typical cost: No separate MYOB price for Taxes, STP or Pay Super; licensing is per named user, quoted through partners, and implementation ranges are in our MYOB Acumatica cost guide
- Typical timeline: A BAS prepare-and-release is one sitting; MYOB’s help puts Pay Super at 3 to 5 business days to reach a fund, so the batch is created on payday
- Last verified: 20 October 2026 against MYOB’s GST return process and super payment process, and the ATO BAS due dates (updated 17 September 2026)
This is the click-by-click layer under our MYOB Acumatica payroll guide and our Payday Super post.
How do you initiate a BAS in MYOB Acumatica?
There is no form called BAS. It is the output of the tax report cycle for the ATO tax agency, and MYOB’s GST return topic gives it four moves: prepare, adjust, release, report. Release every transaction for the period first.
- Open Prepare Tax Report (TX501000). Pick the company (and branch if you file by branch), set Tax Agency to the ATO vendor and check the Tax Period (its quarterly or monthly type is set on the ATO vendor, AP303000). Click Prepare Tax Report.
- Review the lines on Release Tax Report (TX502000). The form switches across with the amounts per report line. Void Report reopens the period; Adjust Tax opens Tax Adjustments (TX301000) to post a correction.
- Release. The button is Close Period in the GST return topic and Release in the form reference. The period closes and, where the ATO vendor has Automatically Generate Tax Bill selected and the report carries a Net Tax line, an AP bill to the ATO is raised, or a debit adjustment if the ATO owes you.
- Run the BAS report. The Business Activity Statement / GST Return report (MB.TX.60.11) produces BAS-A for a quarterly agency, BAS-G for monthly and BAS-Z for annual. MYOB says to copy the values across, not send the report to the ATO.
- Lodge and pay. Key the labels into Online services for business or give them to your agent, then pay the ATO bill through the EFT batch in our accounts payable guide. The ATO’s due dates are 28 October, 28 February, 28 April and 28 July for the quarters and the 21st of the following month for monthly lodgers, or the next business day after a weekend or public holiday.
A document posted after the close follows the Update Closed Tax Periods setting on the ATO vendor, per MYOB’s closed-period topic: ticked, you prepare the period again as a new revision with a second ATO bill for the difference; clear, it reports in the next open period. The tax payable and tax claimable accounts should then net to the ATO bill; anything left after it is paid is a direct posting to a GST account, and the Tax Summary (TX621000) report finds it.
How do you process the super authority in MYOB Acumatica?
“Super authority” is what payroll officers call the SMS step at the end of a Pay Super payment. MYOB’s processing superannuation payments topic documents the whole run, and the Payday Super release notes for 2025.2.100 say to do it after every pay run.
- Create the batch on Create Superannuation Batch (MPPP5005). Use From Pay Run and To Pay Run to pin the run you just completed and tick the contributions. On the Adjusted Contributions tab, add unpaid adjustment lines with Add Selected Adjustments rather than making a separate batch, per MYOB’s adjustment topic. The Exceptions tab lists lines missing a Member ID or Fund Name.
- Validate the funds. Actions, then Validate Super Funds.
- Save the batch. Actions, then Save Batch. Superannuation Batch Details (MPPP5006) opens.
- Submit and approve. Actions, Submit, then Actions, Approve, unless Auto Approved is set in Payroll Preferences.
- Submit the payment. Actions, then Submit Payment, and sign in to your MYOB account.
- Authorise. An SMS code goes to every registered authoriser. Click Actions, then Authorise Payment, and enter the code. With more than one authoriser the batch sits at Partially Authorised until the last one acts, per the form reference; View Payment Authorisations shows who is outstanding.
- Confirm. Actions, then Check Status, polls Pay Super. The general ledger journal posts after authorisation; if the cash account is missing, a Create Journal Entries action appears.
Authorisers, the payment limit and how many must authorise each payment are set during Pay Super registration from Payroll Preferences (MPPP1100). Sites on another clearing house export the approved batch as a SAFF file (Actions, Export) instead.
The ATO’s Payday Super rule is that a contribution is on time if the fund receives it within 7 business days after you pay the employee. MYOB puts Pay Super at 3 to 5 business days to pay a fund, so authorise on payday, not the following week. The rate applied is the 12% super guarantee for 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 in the ATO’s rate table (updated 17 April 2026).
| Task | Form or report | Timing |

| Correct STP year-to-date figures without a pay | STP Update (MPPP5022) | Within 14 days of finding the error, or the next regular pay event (ATO) |
What do you do when a super payment fails?
A failed direct debit means Pay Super could not draw the money; a returned contribution means the fund could not match it to a member. MYOB’s Pay Super disclosure covers both, and the ATO’s Payday Super guide (published 23 June 2026) sets the deadline that neither one pauses.
- Read the status on MPPP5006. Actions, then Check Status. Payment Failed means the debit did not clear. MYOB’s disclosure says the portal shows the failure the same banking day, the contribution is cancelled and must be re-submitted once you fix the cause, and the dishonour fee is yours.
- For a returned contribution, fix the member data. The usual causes are a wrong member number, a closed account or an SMSF not registered to the paying company. Member numbers sit in the footer of the Standard Pay on Pay Details (MPPP2310); funds sit on Superannuation Funds (MPPP2152), with a Register Funds button for SMSFs. Since MYOB’s 2026.1.2 release an SMSF is registered per company, and MPPP5005 warns when an unregistered fund will be excluded.
- Re-pay inside the window. MYOB’s disclosure says a returned contribution not resolved within 5 business days is refunded to your nominated account to be paid again. The ATO gives funds 3 business days to allocate or reject a payment and gives you no extension to the 7 business days when they do, so pay the right fund as soon as you can.
- Void in MYOB Acumatica only if the whole payment failed. Void Batch on MPPP5006 reverses the payment journal and voids the payment, and it is the only reversal the help documents. A single returned contribution is re-paid through the portal or carried into the next batch, and the refund is journalled against super clearing. Check the sequence with MYOB support or your partner the first time.
“The failed super payment that costs people is never the dishonour, because the bank tells you that day. It is the one member number that bounces three weeks later, after payroll has moved on. Open the portal the day after every authorisation and look for returns. Two minutes.”

When do you send an STP update event instead of a pay event?
The ATO’s STP definitions draw the line: a pay event is the file lodged on or before the day you pay employees an amount subject to withholding, and an update event corrects or finalises STP data with no payment in it. In MYOB Acumatica the pay event goes automatically with every completed pay run, and because it carries year-to-date totals most corrections ride on the next one. MYOB’s STP help says even a batch at Submission Not Successful rarely needs resubmitting.
You send an update event when no pay run is coming to carry the fix, or the ATO’s clock runs out first. The ATO’s correction rules (updated 2 May 2026) allow an employee-level correction in the next regular pay event in the same financial year, or by update event within 14 days. The cases we see:
- A terminated employee with wrong year-to-date figures. No next pay run will carry them.
- A qualifying earnings flag fixed after the fact. MYOB’s QE correction topic says the corrected values go out in the next pay event or update event, so if the 14 days expire first, send the update event.
- Year-end finalisation. MYOB’s Manage STP Submissions reference describes the Finalise type as an update event with every employee marked finalised.
To send one, open STP Update (MPPP5022), select the financial year, tick the employees and click Submit Update Event. The batch then shows on Manage STP Submissions (MPPP5019) with Submission set to Update. Finalisation runs from STP Finalise (MPPP5023); the deadlines are in our EOFY checklist.
None of this is customisation. The forms ship with Taxes and Payroll, so a MYOB Acumatica partner in Brisbane can usually clear a stuck release or a Partially Authorised batch over a screen share.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do you initiate a BAS in MYOB Acumatica?
Open Prepare Tax Report (TX501000), select the company, the ATO tax agency and the tax period, and click Prepare Tax Report. The form switches to Release Tax Report (TX502000), where you review the GST lines, adjust or void if needed, and then release, which closes the period and raises the AP bill to the ATO. The BAS labels are printed from the Business Activity Statement / GST Return report and copied into Online services for business or given to your agent.
How do you process the super authority in MYOB Acumatica?
Create the batch on Create Superannuation Batch (MPPP5005), run Validate Super Funds and Save Batch, then on Superannuation Batch Details (MPPP5006) click Submit, Approve and Submit Payment. Each registered authoriser receives an SMS code and enters it through Actions, then Authorise Payment. The batch sits at Partially Authorised until the number of authorisers set at Pay Super registration have all entered their codes.
What happens if a Pay Super payment fails in MYOB Acumatica?
A failed direct debit shows as Payment Failed on MPPP5006 and in the Pay Super portal the same banking day; the contribution is cancelled and must be re-submitted after you fix the cause. A contribution returned by a fund, usually for a wrong member number or an unregistered SMSF, is refunded to your account if not resolved within 5 business days and has to be re-paid. The ATO gives no extension to the 7 business days when a fund rejects a payment, so fix the member data and pay again as soon as you can.
When do you send an STP update event instead of a pay event?
A pay event goes automatically with every completed pay run in MYOB Acumatica and carries year-to-date totals, so most corrections flow through the next pay. Send an update event from STP Update (MPPP5022) when there is no next pay to carry the fix, such as a terminated employee's figures, or when the ATO's 14-day correction window will close before the next pay event. The end-of-year finalisation declaration from STP Finalise (MPPP5023) is also an update event.
When is super due under Payday Super?
From 1 July 2026 a super contribution is on time if the employee's fund receives it within 7 business days after payday. The first contribution for a new employee or a new fund has 20 business days, and super on an out-of-cycle payment such as a bonus is due with the next regular payday. MYOB's help puts Pay Super at 3 to 5 business days to reach a fund, so create and authorise the batch on payday.
